POSITION SUMMARYReports To:
Director of OR/Ambulatory Services
Summary:
A CRNA administers any number of agents (anesthesia) to either relieve pain or make patients unconscious for surgical procedures.
Administration of anesthesia may be by intravenous (injected into the veins), inhalation, or spinal routes.
During the administration of anesthesia, the CRNA closely monitors the patient's response by monitoring temperature, pulse, heart rate, and breathing rate.
If any signs of an allergic reaction occur, immediate intervention is needed.
During surgery, the CRNA continues to closely monitor the patient for symptoms of distress.
This requires taking vital signs and watching for symptoms of shock, breathing problems, the heart irregularities.
Patients are monitored until they have recovered from the anesthesia and are stable.
Prior to procedures that require anesthesia, the CRNA meets with patient and family members to obtain pertinent information, explain the process, and answer any questions.
DCMH offers the following procedures; orthopedic, cataracts, gynecology, urology, ENT, podiatry, minor vascular, epidurals, spinals, PNB's and more.
DCMH houses 3 Operating Rooms and 1 endoscopy room with currently 1 full-time MD and 2 full-time CRNA's with the help of other PRN MD's and CRNA's.
Work Schedule:
They must be able to tolerate long and irregular work hours and are often required to work weekends and on call.
SKILLS & ABILITIESEducationMaster's degree from an accredited nurse anesthetist program, anyone graduating before 1995 will be grandfathered.
ExperienceOne to two years related experienceComputer SkillsProficient in Microsoft Office, email and basic computer skills for other software used throughout the hospital for your area of responsibility.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word applications.
Certificates & LicensesNurse Anesthetist Certification, BLS & ACLS required.
Other RequirementsMust be able to work independently as the OR staff functions autonomously.
This position requires constant standing and frequent walking, handling/fingering, and ability to lift or move more than 50 pounds.
